Healthy Back Tips

10 Healthy Back Tips

  1. Exercise Regularly- This does not have to be anything overly strenuous. Something as simple as a daily walk can make a huge difference.
  2. Eat A Healthy Diet- Proper nutrients allow the body to repair itself easier
  3. Maintain Good Posture- Are you sitting up straight as you read this?
  4. Stretch Your Spine Before And After Sports- This will also help to loosen up the surrounding muscles.
  5. Don't Overload Your Backpack Or Purse- Remember to carry it over both shoulders to balance the load (if possible).
  6. Stretch Your Legs And Back After Each Hour Of Sitting- Whether in a car or at a desk, stretching regularly will help to keep you from tightening up or injuring yourself further.
  7. Never Cradle The Phone Between Your Neck And Shoulder
  8. Sleep On Your back Or Side, Not On Your Stomach- This helps to keep your spine in line and reduces the risk of hurting your neck while you sleep.
  9. Invest In A Good Chair, Pillow And Mattress- When you think about the amount of time you use these things each day, it's worth it.
  10. Have Regular Spinal Check-Ups- It's much easier to prevent a problem than to correct one.

Whats is Spinal Decompression?

Spinal decompression therapy is a breakthrough technology, FDA cleared, achieving high success rates for pain associated with herniated or bulging discs...even after failed surgery.

Spinal decompression creates a negative pressure within the disc, allowing that portion of the disc which has protruded to be pulled back into its normal position, and thus off the very sensitive nerve tissue causing pain.

Traditional Chiropractic:

Traditional chiropractors or traditional chiropractic physicians practice a hands on approach to your health care. Chiropractors manually adjust the vertebral column. This is to help clear communication pathways in the nervous system. The nervous system, as stated on wikipedia.org/wiki/Nervous_system, "coordinates the activity of the muscles, monitors the organs, constructs and also stops input from the senses, and initiates actions." Needless to say, the well-being of the nervous system highly impacts the quality of our daily lives.

The chiropractic approach does not include drugs. The chiropractic approach includes a patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Treatment involves chiropractic adjustments to remove subluxations. Subluxations as defined by www.princetonreview.com/medical, "are disruptions or distortions of nervous system energy flow that may be caused by slight vertebral misalignments." In addition to treatment, chiropractic doctors are often able to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative activities.

What causes subluxations? With stresses of modern life, joints often become "hypomobile," or unable to move as well, due to an injury. When tissue is injured, it undergoes change. Injured tissue can cause inflammation and discomfort. Injured tissue can be caused by one severe event, or repetitive stress over time (e.g. sitting for long hours with poor posture). When joints become hypomobile, the nervous system is not able to function as well, leading to subluxations.

It is rare that chiropractic adjustments cause discomfort. Sometimes, patients can experience a mild soreness after they are treated. This soreness is like the soreness one experiences after a vigorous work out. After twelve to fourty-eight hours, the soreness usually goes away.

By adjusting the joints that have been affected by injured tissue, chiropractors can help alleviate pain and re-open pathways in the nervous system. By re-opening pathways, doctors can start the healing process. This helps lead to increased mobility, and more importantly, relief of stress in the body.
